After the death of Zichang Xu, due to the alternating dynasties of Ming-Qing and social unrest, his son was poor in management and unable to support the huge family business, thus most of the Plum Villa was divided and split out to be a temple. Eventually the Plum Villa was re-named as Haicang Temple, latter purchased by Mr. Cao, who donated to build the bell tower and the main hall, with a new name of “Haicang Buddhist Temple”. All of the plum were submerged by a Fuli flood in 1849, and gradually the park was desolate and the inside houses were collapsed. So far only the lotus pond and several places of rubble left.
